Hello Everyone.

Thanksgiving seems to be rapidly approaching and the turkeys are out in full force. I have one from Safeway ($6, $8 or $10, per bird, depending on how fancy you want to get) that’s stuck in my freezer. The only other trend I can find, and definitely a funny one, is that everyone is apparently also selling Nabsico crackers for cheap. Triscuit season, perhaps?

I was at my local Safeway and discovered Triscuit on sale for $2 ea — there happened to be a shelf coupon for $1 off any two boxes, so I ended up paying $1.50 per box. Not a bad deal at all. Oh, and clementine season has started! :)

Costco Run: Nice stuff!

November 5th, 2008

So I stopped by Costco on my way home today and walked through a bunch of aisles. Here are some things that I noticed:

  1. Numi Organic Teas in a Combo Pack (mostly Jasmine Green with a few Chamomile and White Rose Tea) Each bag comes out to $0.08 or so, which is an AMAZING deal for Organic teabags.
The Chamomile lemon is great. (drinking it right now)
  2. Mrs. May’s Almond Snack ($4.49 /lb) — I can’t believe that it’s priced slightly cheaper than normal roasted almonds. That is absolutely insane.
  3. Stonyfield Farms Yogurts for less than 80 cents each. What a deal. I think it was a 12 pack for $9?

Dear Friends,

Wasn’t that an exciting presidential election to witness? This week is also a terribly exciting week for absolutely unrelated reasons: It’s Holiday Season! What does this mean for the deal-seeker in me? Well, there are always those CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP frozen turkeys at Safeway. I can still remember the Safeway runs with my partners-in-crime. We would ride on over to Safeway and pick out the largest possible 20lb turkey for $7… and then make off with 2 of them each. With 80 lbs of frozen turkey safely stowed away, we knew we could rest easy and not worry about trying to find a bird on the last few days before our feast.

Yes. 80 lbs of turkey. Such a lovely sight to behold all at once. I might just go pick me up one of those fat birds just for nostalgia’s sake. I will take a picture of my freezer if I manage that feat.

Going to rant really briefly this week.

I walk/run to grocery stores. People find this strange. I find it strange that people find it strange. Just because I live in Suburbia, do I have to follow the Suburban mold of driving between parking lot to parking lot? I had someone say that running to the grocery store and buying stuff seemed very much like a pack mule. The funny thing is that the person who said this to me is a fitness instructor. As I contemplated this comment, I realized how ironic it was — a person who structures their life around workouts found it ridiculous that I would combine transportation and workout. It’s as if running has been defined as an activity that can no longer have any productive output other than controlling our weight or burning off calories. Anyway, enough about this for today. Let’s see what’s on sale, shall we?
