Fred is currently on a small break.
Don’t worry. He will be back to write about the deals in another week or two.
He’s just realigning a major part of his life.
[Bay Area] Supermarket Deals 7/9-7/15
July 9th, 2008
edit: went to Safeway today and Organic Yellow Peaches, Plums, and Nectarines are still $1.99/lb!
I’m going to cut to the chase with today’s post because I’m already running late. Who knew that red wine could induce sleep and tardiness? I really enjoyed those organic plums from last week’s ad. I found that the organic nectarines and peaches were also on sale at $1.99, but I’ll have to check to see if they are still at that price as of this week’s ad.
Safeway:
******Organic Grapes, Plums, Yellow Peaches and Necatarines @ $1.99/lb
****Organic Cluster Tomatoes @ $2.99/lb (conventional ones are $2.49)
****Foster Farms Chicken Breasts, Thighs, Drumsticks @ $0.99/lb
****Kellogg’s Cereal @ $1.50/ea (must buy 4, with coupon)
***Friday only: Whole Roasted Chicken @ $5/ea
***Organic Berries @ $3/ea (Straw, Rasp, Black)
***Rainier Cherries @ $3.99/lb
**Nectarines @ $1/lb
Safeway also has this “Summer Savings” promotion going on where you get $ back depending on how many qualifying items you’ve bought. The best deal I could come up with was buying Kellogg’s cereal using the coupon at $6 (for 4 boxes), and then buying 21 boxes of kleenex at $1.50/ea. That’s $37.50 – $20 (for buying 25 items). There are apparently a few thousand items on this promo, so it’s probably worth digging around for more information.
edit: I came up with a new deal — Snickers Marathon bars @ $1.25 /ea — buy 25, get each bar for $0.45 after coupon.
[Bay Area] Safeway Deals 4/30 – 5/6
April 29th, 2008
The weather has been quite nice recently and it looks like all the stores are getting ready for Cinco de Mayo. I have no idea what Cinco de Mayo is about, but the supermarkets are having a blast at it. In particular, Safeway has some great sales going on. Make sure you grab those mangos early and then let them ripen… I think I’ll go buy a couple dozen, at that price point!
Safeway:
************** Mangos @ $0.25 EACH! (buy buy buy buy buy!! you will NOT see a cheaper price)
***********Seedless Watermelon @ $3.88/ea
*********Pork Spareribs @ $1.69/lb (Sunday, May 4th only)
*********Organic Roma Tomatoes @$1/lb (from Mexico..)
********Organic Strawberries @ $4.79 for 2 lbs (buy1get1)
*******Safeway Chicken Thighs and Drumsticks @ $1/lb
*******Frozen Chicken Breasts @ $1.49/lb (May 3 only)
*******O Organics Baby Salad Mixes @ $3.99 for 2 (buy1get1)
******12 pack Corona + Pacifico @ $12
***** Avocados @ $1/ea
***Tomatoes on the vine @ $1.99/lb (slightly more expensive than the past week)
**Honey Bunches of Oats @ $1.88/ea
It looks like Raleys has avocados for slightly cheaper @ 0.87/ea, but I’d rather stop by Safeway… geez, those mangos… (They looked kind of green today, so definitely buy early!)

Hey Y’all,
Y’know, those oranges from Safeway weren’t all that compared to the organic oranges I got at the farmers market. It’s amazing how big of a difference there is, between those 39cent/lb oranges and the organic ones… They are around $1/lb, but the taste and sweetness is amazing! Citrus season is ending, so you should try to jump on the bandwagon and get some nice fruit before spring rolls around.
As for this week’s Safeway ad:
*****Tri -tip (untrimmed) @ $3/lb
****Kellogg’s Cereal or Pop-Tarts @ $2/ea
****Chicken Breast @ $2/ea (value pack)
**** Wild Sockeye Salmon (previously frozen) @ $8/lb
***Pom Tea, Buy 1 Get 1 Free @ $3/2 bottles
***Organic Lettuce @ $1/head
**Cabbage @$0.39/lb
I finally got the other weekly ads this week, so I’m going to try to rush through Raleys and Luckys… Read the rest of this entry »
